Final Fantasy XI is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was released in 2002. With over 8 million players, it is one of the most popular games on the PlayStation 2 and PC platforms. The game has been around for almost 17 years and continues to be played today.
The ffxi expansion 2021 is a game that has been around for over 20 years. It has seen many changes in the industry since it first came out, and continues to do so today.
When Final Fantasy XI’s third expansion, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, was published, the playerbase was ecstatic, especially the new professions that came with it. Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, and Corsair were all seen as good additions to the overall game. According to the newest look at the game’s history behind the scenes on the anniversary site, the initial intention was to have even more added to the game; director Koichi Ogawa adds that the aim was to have four additional occupations with the expansion:
In addition, our initial intentions were to create four positions, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we were only able to add three. I’m not sure what the fourth job was meant to entail.
A new current interview with Capcom developer Minae Matsukawa has been added to the site, in which she discusses her own recollections of playing the game as a peer around the time the game’s first expansion was published in Japan. (The western version of Final Fantasy XI came after the first expansion had already been released.) Matsukawa recalls her early leveling experiences, as well as the occasion when a random stranger lifted her after a loss, inspiring her to devote her time to playing a Red Mage and assisting other players in the same way.
