ArenaNet has announced that the WvW “Beta Weekend Event” scheduled to take place on August 2-4 will be postponed, with no new date being offered. In a blog post, ArenaNet explained why they’re taking this action and what it means for future iterations of the beta event.
The “wvw alliance beta” is a feature that allows guilds to enter into an alliance and fight as one unit. In the second WvW beta, they have decided to postpone it until further notice. They have also prepared a preview of the upcoming map, Echovald Wilds.
Please reschedule your plans since there will be no Guild Wars 2 WvW beta test this weekend. On the official ArenaNet forums, ArenaNet gently let everyone down, referring to their October explication for its prior unsuccessful September test.
The studio had to cancel the event partway through that month due to concerns with the initial test and logging structure, however the programmers learned the technology and matching were working at scale. They were planned a second test for this weekend, but it would be subject to the resolution of a few minor issues beforehand. This week’s update clarifies that the deployment is being hampered by a new “must-fix problem” involving player counts and server connectivity.
“This means we’ll have to make a modification to a key function that, if done improperly, may have game-wide consequences.” As previously said, the code for map capacity management is utilized across the game, and it is old code that we do not usually update. In such a circumstance, we must take it slowly, double-check our work, and properly test the modifications in a variety of settings. When such adjustments are done under time constraints, they are more prone to mistake and increase the probability of something unpleasant happening. We’d rather take a little extra time with the problem to ensure that we’re dealing with it appropriately and not causing further problems by hurrying. The beta effort on September 24 is still paying off, in our opinion. From that brief test, we were able to discover and fix numerous key system concerns. We’re relieved we caught this one before launching another beta.”
However, there is some positive news as well: ArenaNet will reveal Echovald Wilds, one of End of Dragons’ primary zones, during its 3 p.m. EST live this afternoon, riding high on its greatest quarter in years.
